How to use music to time travel
Train your brain to associate music with experiences.
I define music time travel as:
The act of listening to a song or album that 'takes you back in time' (ie. revives strong memories of a person, emotion, or experience).
You've likely used music time travel before—perhaps unintentionally. It's very easy to do. Choose a song or album, then listen to it extremely often while with a person, feeling an emotion, or undergoing an experience. Do not listen to the song/album in any other situation for a couple of months.
It's hard to describe the impact on successful music time travel to someone who has not experienced it themselves. My best attempt is to compare it to memories flooding into your brain and intermixing into a swirl of consciousness. It's a surreal experience and I would suggest you try it.
I'm trying to use music time travel more intentionally now. I find music time travel brings back more intense memories than re-reading journal entries or re-seeing photos, and I'm about to start my senior year of high school. I want to have songs to listen to in a few years that I can associate strongly with my high school experience.
